First Annual “Friendraiser” Gala

Eventbrite - Friends of the Orange County Public Library - Friendraiser Gala

Join us on August 5 from 4-7 p.m. for our first annual “Friendraiser” Gala.

This “Friendraiser” is our way of sincerely thanking the many volunteers who, over the past years, have given so much of their time and energy in support of the Orange County Public Library. We also hope to share our vision and passion for the Library with the greater Orange County community. The party will be held at the historic Webb House (circa 1800) at 117 E. Queen Street, Hillsborough, NC, with complete access to the house and garden. On site will be face painting, beverages, various and wandering local authors, snacks, and the KONA Italian-ice truck.

Entrance to the Friendraiser is free and all are welcome. If you are not currently a member of the Friends of the Orange County Public Library, we hope you will take this opportunity to join the Friends. Newly signed members will be eligible for a drawing (to be held at the end of the event), for which the prize will be a painting by Hillsborough artist David Terry, with framing generously donated by Sherry Gray of Hillsborough’s Yesterday & Today frame shop.

Fund-Raising Success!

Thank you to all the Friends and other supporters who donated to our GoFundMe campaign to help the Orange County Public Library after it was recently flooded. We raised $1,500 in total–which was well over our campaign goal! We are no longer accepting donations for this campaign; however, we encourage you to join the Friends of the Library or renew your membership and keep supporting our community library. For more information, pick up an application form in the library or download the application form here.

Emergency Fund-Raising to Repair Flood Damage to Orange County Public Library

Donate now.

The Main Orange County Public Library sustained significant flooding during the winter storm this past week. Most of the damage occurred in the Teen Room and the Children’s section of the library. The library lost books in Youth Services, play equipment in the Little Learning Lounge (the space for youngest customers), and furniture in the Teen Room, among other damages.

While staff continues to assess the damage, the Friends of OCPL will be collecting financial donations to offset any expenses not covered by insurance. The Friends have set up a GoFundMe to collect donations. Our initial goal is $1,000. Please go here to donate now.

We will also accept donations by check. Please mail to: FOCPL, PO Box 1238, Hillsborough NC 27278-1238. Write “Flood Donation” in the memo line of your check.

The library plans to reopen on Saturday, January 14. Library leadership will remain in close contact with the Friends regarding the flood damage. We hope all Friends members will show their support of our wonderful library, and please share this fund-raising campaign.

Books & Brews at the Hot Tin Roof

Our Books & Brews fundraising event at the Hot Tin Roof was a lot of fun for everyone who attended, despite the stormy weather that night! A raffle was held to give away some great prizes donated by local businesses, including a book from Purple Crow and gift certificates from Haven Salon, Radius, and Matthew’s Chocolates. The husbands of FOCPL Board members Marcia Cameron and Robin Crawford graciously volunteered to tend bar, and they kept the drinks coming!
