Heroes were everywhere at the library’s Summer Reading 2015 kickoff event. Kids of all ages enjoyed crafts, snow cones, and battles between opposing knights. We even had a magic show to enthrall our guests.
We estimate that over 300 people attended the festivities. While here, 137 children signed up to participate in our reading program. We wish to thank the Friends for providing snow cones from Pelican’s SnoBalls at noon that day. They were a big hit!
Reading programs help keep reading fun during the long summer breaks, and help some children avoid what’s called the summer slide – losing ground in their ability to read. Programs like this have been going on for decades, but the June 6 event was only the second time that the Orange County Public Library has hosted a kickoff event. To find out more about Summer Reading 2015, visit the library’s website.
If you missed the kickoff, you haven’t missed all the fun. The library has over 75 opportunities for the public to enjoy reading-related fun, free activities over the course of June and July. Check our calendar at or follow us on Facebook and Twitter and make plans now to have fun at the Orange County Public Library.
