Event: Summer Reading Kickoff This Saturday

The Orange County Public Library invites families to attend Summer Reading Kickoff on Saturday, June 6, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. This free and festive event marks the beginning of the library’s summer reading program, and will feature music, storytelling, crafts, and face painting. Entertainment includes knights and ladies from the Society of Creative Anachronism, an organization that shares the traditions of the Middle Ages and Renaissance. Steve Somers, founder of Amazing Teacher, will also be there to make learning fun with magic tricks, drama, puppetry, stories, and music. And there will be free snow cones, co-sponsored by the Friends!

The theme of this summer’s reading program is “Every Hero Has a Story.” The eight-week program combines daily reading with a variety of hands-on, interactive programs and activities for all ages, such as storytimes, maker days, skateboarding tips, movie matinees, and poetry workshops. The summer reading program is a fun way to get and keep kids reading all summer long.

We hope you will join us for the Summer Reading Kickoff. Stop by the Friends table while you are there!
